I just noticed recently that text I paste into an email as a quotation no
longer shows in the default color for quotations, but just as black text with a
few thrown in.
I checked in the preferences, but nothing has changed there.
Quoted text is supposed to show in maroon.

Nope, I have no problem with quoted text here. However, I'm seeing a
problem every now and then with smileys

For example in this reply your original text is maroon, if I paste something
in:
The boy stood on the burning deck
or even
The boy stood on the burning deck
Then that is black - it's not 'quoted text' - which specifically
means text quoted from

Right - it IS a quotation but it does not respect the choice of font
and color for quoted text.

What profile do you have selected in Editor window View-Viewer Profile?
