I'll go ahead and second Windows 8.1. I finally wiped my Lenovo T410 clean of Win 7 home edition (which was limiting anyway) because it was slow as anything. I decided to go ahead with 8.1, and I'm pretty satisfied. It was much simpler to install, and while the interface takes some getting used

Why are you upgrading to an OS that's already pretty close to end-of-support? If you're doing a clean OS install, might as well go right to Windows 8.1. Anecdotally, you'll even get better performance on lower-end hardware (like your Atom with only 4GB of RAM). Assuming you go with Windows 8, t

Matt, I have just done this to my Dell M6300 Workstation. I went with Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. I use Eset Nod32 for virus protection and malware/email protector. It's time for me to quit fighting and go ahead with an upgrade of my one Windows system at home to Win7. I hate to spend the money, but it looks like the way to go. So my questions are: What flavor of Win7 to buy and what do you recommend for anti-virus? The technical details are that it's a
