I'm running a Fedora 19 Alpha, up to date as of today (22/04/2013).
I cannot get gdm to run without using nomodeset on the grub command
line. The fedora bubble comes up okay, but then it switches to the
verbose display mode, blinks a few times and just stays there. Adding

I remember Pentium III machines came from the USB 1.x era, not USB 2.0.
So likely your BIOS won't allow you to boot from a USB-anything port

Seems to be caused by some update.
I reinstalled F19Alpha, and everything worked properly. Updating the system
brought it back to the above state. I see a couple of xorg-* and other
video related updates. I'm trying to downgrade them one at a time to see if
that fixes anything.

Trying to yum upgrade 19 is stuck on a mirror with no useful throughput. What
kind of workaround for this is available? Nothing jumps at me in the yum man
page. How do I specify to use a particular mirror know to work?
