updmap suggestions

I suggest that updmap uses kpsewhich to find the locations of the actual *.map files -- additionally I would like to have my own updmap program in my local texmf tree so that the main TEXMF tree can stay completely clean. This would imply that the texconfig script (or whichever program calls upd
