The router is smart enough to know the difference (outside world vs its own domain) - ie. it knows it's "lying" and apparently why it's been told to - (that's why that flexible function exists). Don, a couple of things. Some providers, and AT&T does this at times, will remember your mac-address of your computer in the modem, so when you move it to the router, it won't allow that connection. This can usually be resolved by unplugging the power (not power off) on the modem and leave it off
