Yeah, the creatures must have been seconds from
"Alien" since the viewer never really gets a clear
glimpse of any of them (except a "bat" climbing upside
down on the ceiling).  Despite the fact that they are
soooooooo cave-adapted, all of the critters have
plenty of pignment, high metabolisms (they gnosh down
cave explorers like hyenas at KFC), compact bodies
without attenuated limbs or antennae.  The cave
ecosystem, as identified by the the team biologists,
consists of white algae, giant cave moles, scary eels,
scorpions, and bat-men.  There is mention of a
salamander but they  must have edited that scene since
they never show it.  Pity, since salamanders, i.e.
Proteus, are the only members of the critter cast that
actually occur in the area and are true monsters, once
thought to be dragon larvae....
