Big Bend National Park Fire

Not caving-related, but of interest to many Texas Cavers. We have been in
Terlingua watching smoke and (at night) light from the flames in the far
distance. Much of the sky island high country in the Park has been burning
since last Thursday. It will recover, but not in my lifetime. Hopefully they
will be able to keep it from getting a good foothold in Pine Canyon, one of
the botanical gems of the Park.

The park has a NEWS Release section on their web site that includes a map
showing the extend of the fire. You can go back over the releases and see how
the fire and the measures to control it have developed. For those that don’t
know, the Diablo Hot Shots are all Mexican Nationals from Boquillas. Here is
last night's (4-13) update.
