A few days ago, I mentioned I had found riders to go
on a road-trip to Vermont by using the rideshare feature
of Craigslist.

I haven't checked out Craiglist in a few years and

I was unaware of the high percentage of bogus ads on
their rideshare program that are used by spammers.

What looks like legitimate ads are not. Then they
e-mail you, with what looks like a response, but there
is something weird about it, as if they didn't actually
read your e-mail, but just the heading. The first 2
responses tricked me as I was in a hurry and clicked
on them. Now I have to carefully check the heading
of the e-mail, presuming that if I don't open it, I will be
o.k.

Prior to about 2 days ago, my G-mail account would get
about one piece of spam a week, that was fairly obvious spam
by the heading. Now, I am getting spammed several times a day, by
what looks like people off of Craigslist responding to my
ad.

If anybody is getting messages from me, that are not
my usual form of off-topic discussion, then these spammers
got a hold of my address book, especially if the messages
are just sent to you.

I still think I have 4 riders willing to make the trip ( presuming
they are for real ), but most are being dropped off near Hagerstown, Maryland,
or Pennsylvania to catch a bus to NY. So I could have room
for some cavers that live along my route to take them to
Vermont. ( Hagerstown, Maryland to Essex Junction, Vermont )

At the moment, the tentative plan is to drive alone from Harrisburg,
Pennsylvannia to Vermont, which is over 8 hours, so I will be searching
for a rider, preferably a caver going to the convention.

Please reply via the OT listserve or to me privately.
