From: Cheryl Jones (Boldly plagiarized from a post by David Riggs on CaveChat) Popular Science magazine just announced that they've scanned and put a searchable archive online of their entire 137-year run. http://www.popsci.com/archives The archive is not yet browsable by specific issue, but you can search for any term and jump in from there. A quick glance shows lots of old articles on Mammoth, Wind and Jewel, Carlsbad, turn-of-the-century articles by E. A. Martel (considered the father of modern speleology), and an article teaching you how to set pitons and body-rappel into pits. http://www.popsci.com/archive-viewer?id=OCEDAAAAMBAJ&pg=66 Here's a few "jumping off places" for you: http://www.popsci.com/results?query=cavern http://www.popsci.com/results?query=cave -- Nathan Farrar University of Virginia EVSC 2011
