I have a feeling that in our lifetime, that there is going to be some kind of major change in the way the Big 3 of the auto industry operates.
I can picture at least one of them going out of business or merging into the other. So there will be a Big 2 instead of a Big 3. At the moment, my guess is that GM will be the one to throw in the towel. Their hybrid SUV is probably the only thing that can save them, yet it is too expensive for anyone to buy. They are building some good cars. But their competitors seem to be building more desireable cars that cost less. Ford's hybrid Escape has been on the market long enough now that it, people would consider buying it. Dodge has its problems too. But it had some recent success with the PT Cruiser, and the 4 door Jeep. It didn't risk everything on a big SUV like the Yukon or the Tahoe. If or when GM fails, hopefully the workers can just move over to a nearyby Toyota or Honda plant.
