Thanks, Fritz! Here's the scoop: I'm transferring to Big Thicket National Preserve. The headquarters is about 30 miles north of Beaumont. I'm in the process of buying a house in Wildwood, a little community about 5 miles from the park HQ. The backyard backs up to a golf course and has wooded lots on both sides, so it still has sort of a secluded feel to even in a subdivision. We all know that there's no other place like Big Bend. I will certainly miss the Chisos Mountains, the dedicated park visitors who return year after year, and doing educational programs with the visitors. Several people have told me that Big Thicket is completely unlike any other national park area in many ways, so I'll have a lot to learn in my new job. But I'm looking forward to new challenges and adventures, and to being much closer to my family. My going-away party is tonight. I'm a little concerned about all the dirt that my friends and co-workers have on me after 20 years. Feel free to share my contact info with others. Thanks again for your kind words!
