A hill country tourist attraction was shut down Tuesday after one of its
expert guides was found dead inside.

The guide, 45-year-old Thomas Summers, along with another expert cave tour
guide, were at a place called "A Cave Without a Name" on River Mountain
Drive near Boerne. The two men entered a section known as "Dead Man's Cave".
After the Monday's heavy rain, the water level inside the cave was too high.
The men went diving to check for a clog and things went terribly wrong.

"They went in there, and one of them went in further than the other one. And
then it sounded like he was in distress, when his partner came out and
called 911," said Kendall County Sheriff Lt. Luis Martinez.

Investigators believe Summers dove into a narrow path of the cave, got
stuck, and drowned. The water was so high, it had to be pumped out before
Summers' body could be recovered.

Summers was well known in the Boerne community. The cave was closed Tuesday
to honor his memory.
