Car and Driver recently had a long, very positive review of a European model
Ford that is cheap, well made, and gets 40 MPG. Unfortunately it won't get to
the US until 2010. (It is marketed there as the "Fiesta," but it's nothing
like the late 1970s Fiesta sold here.)

My wife agrees with you and doesn't like domestic autos. I'm not sure as I like
my Ford Exploder (per Travis) as it suits my needs. We amortize our vehicles
over a long period of time.
