Q1                  What is the one inspirationalreal life incident that you
want to share with all?

A1                   VBalasubramanian Corporate Management Advisor
(1987–present) June 9

This happened in the year 1992 in Calcutta, India when I was35 years old.

At 8.00 P.M. I had an excellent dinner comprising Masala Dosawith sambhar and
coconut chutney. My wife had made Potato Podimas curry withLemon Rasam and
Drumstick Sambhar in the morning for lunch. A lot of the PotatoPodimas curry
was leftover and my wife decided to use it for the masala dosa.Since I avoid
Coffee late in the evening, we decided to have a cup of tea.

At approx. 9.00 P.M., the black telephone in the hall startedringing. Hoping it
was not an office call, I picked it up. The call was from one of my bestfriends
in Kolkata. Though we studied in different schools, we played inthe same
neighborhood. He was a year senior to me in age.

“I want you to draft something urgently for me”, said he!Jokingly I enquired
whether it was his last Will and Testament. “No”, says he! “You have to drafta
poem for my sister’s daughter who is in Class IX”. “The subject is‘Nature’! You
have time till 8.00 A.M. tomorrow”!

I was in a pretty good mood but this vanished in an instant.“Listen, you
moron”, "whatever gave you the idea that I can write poems”?He immediately
responded, “you do so much of drafting”, said he. “Can’t youwrite a simple poem
on nature”?

By this time I was pretty upset. Since my wife could hear theconversation, I
refrained from using all the English abuses I learned at St.Xavier’s College.
“Look”, I said, “I can draft contracts, agreements, powersof attorney, wills,
and even pre-nuptial agreements if that is what you want”.

“But I have never tried a poem or a story”. He just refusedto hear anything
stating that if I couldn’t even write a poem, I was prettymuch worthless and
disconnected the phone.

After the phone call, I got very upset. I took a sheet ofpaper and a pen but I
couldn’t for my life imagine what I was going to write. I asked my wife for
help but shelooked at me as if I had gone mad. Finally, I decided to sleep
onit. Before I slept, I wrote hundreds of words on a piece of paper related
tonature like Hills, Mountains, Seas, Rivers, Flowers, Green, Pink, etc.

The next day Igot up at 6.00 A.M. I don’t know what really inspired me but
within ten minutesI wrote a poem. The next half an hour was spent on polishing
it. At 8.00 A.M. the friendturned up to deliver the poem to his sister’s
daughter.

Three days later, the friend and his sister's daughter paid avisit. They had a
huge earthen pot full of 30 Rassogollas of the biggest size.I jokingly asked my
friend, “Are you getting married a second time”? He glaredat me. “This is for
thepoem”, he said! “She got the first prize in the Class and insistedon buying
sweets for you”! “Of course, it was a job to convince the teacher shehad
written it but she said she had help from her uncle”.

“The next time you write a poem, I suggest a lower standard”!“Your standard is
such that it is sure to get her into trouble”. I called himan ungrateful wretch
and the moment their backs were turned I started gorgingon the Rassogollas much
to the dismay of my wife who was of the opinion that eating ten huge
Rassogollas oneafter another was not only bad for health but bad manners.

The poem received so much of appreciation that later on Iwrote nearly 50 poems
and enjoyed it.I am reproducing the poem below:

THE MIGHT OF NATURE

The Sun rises on the horizon,

Bathing the earth in an unearthly glow,

The denizens of the earth wake up,

To marvel at its splendorous light.

The stream rushes down the mountains,

Gurgling and charting its course,

Sweeping everything in its path,

Pebbles, plants, boulders and trees.

The oceans and rivers on the earth,

Thunder and roar with a mighty uproar

The enormous waves lash the earth,

Trying to devour it up as it were.

The sky darkens and the cloud bursts,

Pelting the earth with storm and rain,

The forests and hills awash with green,

Nothing more beautiful can be seen.

The gently falling snow on earth,

Covers everything in radiant white,

A dense fog, a gentle mist,

Obliterates everything from our midst.

Man tries to harness the mighty nature,

To be at his beck and call,

It laughs at his puny attempts,

And wreaks vengeance on one and all.

Q2                  What are the 7 unnecessaryitems you took out of your budget
for good?

Deepa Harishankar Manager, Mannar & CompanyMarch 14

Tata Sky! In the age of Netflix and Amazon Prime, there’s notime for Tata Sky.
We don’t watch sports. So, there’s no need for Tata Sky.

Religion. It’s expensive as hell (pun intended).

Premium segment toiletry.  My skin is quite happy with Cinthol Red! A lotless
plastic too.

Disposable women’s hygiene products. Say hello to the menstrual cup. Again, a
lot lessplastic.

Uninstall food deliveryapps from your phone. I did that and realised that I
didn’t like the extra effort of downloadingthe app every time I wanted to order
food just for the heck of it.

Fancy cereal forbreakfast. I still have a dabba with exotic cereal but I think
I am ok with anegg and cheese omelette if I need a quick breakfast.

Organic anything. I amconvinced that most food stuff sold as organic is no
different from the ones without suchlabels.

Rule No 1: Thou shalt not say “Hindi is the nationallanguage”. This is
non-negotiable. Period…;-)

Rule No 2: Thou shalt not expect the Mumbai or Delhi kind ofstreet food in our

to other Indian cities. But try out our barotta stallsif you are interested in
a cheap street food.

Q5                  What do you think on 97% of the world’s water is salty or
otherwiseundrinkable?

A5       3 Answers Dr.Anuradha Srinivasan, worksat OsmaniaUniversityAnswered 6h

There is about the same amount of water on Earth now as therewas millions of
years ago. Nearly 97 percent of all the world's water is saltyor otherwise
undrinkable. Another 2 percent is locked in ice caps and glaciers. That leaves 1
percent for all our needs.🌼

2ND answer FuneraLMasteR , Gas inour softdriks, is an acid under
pressureAnswered 4h ago

Just being simple.

Earth is a planet of water, it's most of the water content isin the oceans.
Which is 97%

The ocean water is very salty , and can't be consumed byhumans for drinking
purposes.

But the remaining three percent of fresh water 💦 is consumable.

It is stored in lakes , glaciers , ponds rivers and manyother fresh water
bodies.

3rd answer-CyrilDeons Vithali , Senior Sub EditorAnswered 3h ago

Only less than 3% of water is fresh water. Out of this 3%just 1% of it is
available as drinking water. This 1% includes surface water, ground water, ice
sheetsetc. The most important valuable resource like water has to be usedwith
great care and in sustainable way. Otherwise we will have no water todrink.

Q6                  When the water reaches thesurface, does the drop in
pressure cause the water to turn into steam?

A6       Ritwik Sunny ,former Customer Support Executive at Ashok Leyland
Answered Sun

When the water reaches the surface, the pressure is dropped, which causes the
water to turn into steam. The steam spins a turbine, which isconnected to a
generator that produces electricity. The steam cools off in acooling tower and
condenses back to water.

Q7                  How to water air plants?

A7                   Usethe Right Water

Don’t use chlorinated water for your air plants as it canharm them. Instead,
use rainwater or filtered water if possible. If you want touse tap water, allow
it to sit out in a bowl for 24 hours first so that thechlorine evaporates.
Chlorine can turn the tips of the leaves brown.

Change Your Watering Schedule Seasonally

Depending on the season, air plants need to be bathed atdifferent frequencies.
In the summer when it is hot, they like to be bathedonce a week, but in the
cool winter months, once every three weeks or so willdo. Pay attention to the
changing of the seasons and the health of your airplant and water accordingly.

Mist them several times a week. This may be your only optionif your Tillandsia
is part of a mounted display where it isn’t easy to detachit for soaking. Some
people just prefer this method. Misting air plants shouldbe done more often in
dry weather, or when your home is using air conditioningor heating.
