Pranam 1 अध्यात्म रामायण, *Adhyātma Rāmāyaṇa*,t. 'Spiritual Ramayana') is a 13th- to 15th-century Sanskrit <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanskrit> text that allegorically interprets the story of Hindu epic *Ramayana <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramayana>* in the Advaita Vedanta <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advaita_Vedanta> framework. (around 600 years old). It is embedded in the latter portion of *Brahmānda Purana <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brahm%C4%81nda_Purana>*. The Hindu tradition attributes the text to the Bhakti movement saint Ramananda <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramananda>. The text consists of 7 books, 65 chapters and 4,500 verses in the form of a dialogue between Shiva and Parvati.
2 *Adhyathmaramayanam Kilippattu* is the most popular Malayalam <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malayalam> version of the Sanskrit <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanskrit> epic *Ramayana <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramayana>*. It is believed to have been written by Thunchaththu Ramanujan Ezhuthachan <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thunchaththu_Ramanujan_Ezhuthachan> in the early 17th century, and is considered to be a classic of Malayalam literature <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malayalam_literature> and an important text in the history of Malayalam language. It is a retelling of the Sanskrit work Adhyatma Ramayana <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adhyatma_Ramayana> in kilippattu <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kilippattu> (bird song) format. Ezhuthachan used the Grantha <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grantha_alphabet>-based Malayalam script to write his *Ramayana*, although the Vatteluttu <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vatteluttu> writing system was the traditional writing system of Kerala <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kerala> then. Recitation of Adhyathmaramayanam Kilippattu is very important in Hindu families in Kerala. The month of Karkitakam in the Malayalam calendar <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malayalam_calendar> is celebrated as the Ramayana recitation month and Ramayana is recited in Hindu houses and temples across Kerala. 3 Tradition ascribes the authorship of the Sanskrit Adhyathma Ramayana <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adhyatma_Ramayana> to Ramananda <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramananda> since it is said to be an integral part of Brahmanda Purana <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brahmanda_Purana>. However, some scholars attribute it to the period 14th - 15th century CE and the author as unknown. Adhyathma Ramayana is the portrayal of a conversation between Lord Siva <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shiva> and Goddess Parvati <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parvati>, as reported by Lord Brahma <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brahma> to Sage Narada <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narada>. It is this work that provided Tulasidas <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tulasidas> with the inspiration to compose his immortal work, the Ramacharitamanasa <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramacharitamanasa> This is the same work which was translated by Thunchathu Ezhuthachan into Malayalam <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malayalam> in the form of *kilippattu,* a South Indian genre in which a parrot recites the text to the poet 4 This Ramayanam the root from Rama nandhar has made a huge deviation from original; Ravanan imprisoned only a Maya Sita and worshipped Sit a as mother; and Rama burnt the Maya sita in fire and the real Sita was mingled; Rama knows that he is an avatram as Maha Vishnu; so on this would Go. However, this cult was there in Kerala in and around 300 years or less than that. There is a reason attributed to do it in the karkkitakam not only the end of Malayalam calendar as a cause ; the rainy season prevents people from moving about for work; and the rain may cause diseases also; so home cleaning is taken up; people eat only vegetarian food avoiding 32 days non vegetarian food. The bhakti for about a month defends the people from falling sick as well as keeping them healthy of body and mind. I wrote sometime back on writing about Ezhuthachan literature. I am happy that it took off today. 5 Ayanam is a a principle celebrated in India especially, during the Dkakshinayanam, AADI to Maargazhi 6months and in Kerala they mark it as Karkkitakam. Entire India including Kerala were celebrating the shakthi worship only in Aadi masam and ended it with the Mahavishnu and Parama Sivan while ending the Maargazhi masam. Since Rama travelled the whole of the Bharatha varsha his Travel RAMASYA+ AYANAM=became Ramayanam. South being the south direction of the Yama and the weather change at the change of Ayana, may cause the sufferings due to a lack of work and diseases ; that would be mitigated by prayer to Gods; hence the Ramayana reading for 32 days in the Ramayana masam. 6 The Ramayana tells the story of a noble human being, his bonding and relations, how a man should behave, which are the paths that is to be chosen for a good life etc. Understanding the root meaning of Ramayana, will enhance ones daily life and family bonding. The relationship between a wife and a husband can be enhanced by understanding Lord Ram’s ideologies. Eka Sloki Ramayana, explains Ramayana in a single sloka. “Poorvam Raama tapovaanadi gamanam , hathva mrugam Kaanchanam Vaidehi haranam Jatayu maranam Sugreeva sambhaashanam, Baali nirgrahanam, samudra taranam Lanka puri daahanam Pashchath Ravana Kumbhakarna hananam yetahi Ramayanam” Meaning: Once when Rama was sent to the forest [Ayodhya Kandam], He chased a deer, meanwhile, Sita was kidnapped, Jatayu was killed[Aranya Kandam]. Then there were discussions and planning with Sugreeva [for the war], Bali was killed [Kishkinta Kandam], the ocean was crossed and Lanka was burnt [Sundara Kandam]. Then Lord Rama, slayed Kumbhakarna and Ravana and rescued Goddess Sita [Yuddha Kandam]. 7 A detailed recital for 2 hours as video enclosed: https://youtu.be/zHHU0dfAQ2s Thank you KR IRS 17721 NB: Ezhuthachan literary articles are afloat in English and Malayalam. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Thatha_Patty" group.
