Thanks for testing I did exactly what you did thanks for the "mv" tip.
It still will not refresh on xubuntu. I tested it on a fresh vmware
install. So I think it is xubuntu related how can I test what is the
problem.
PS what system do you use? and pkill is a saver program than killall

Lets formulate it different the loss of data had nothing to do with the
desktop problem it was related to something else.
The problem here is that the desktop is not being synchronized correctly
when using a symbolic link as desktop reference.
Example:
You have to remove your desktop first to be

After I installed Xubuntu on another Machine, refreshing the desktop
worked as expected. Then went back to the first machine and had it
working there as well. So I can't reproduce the bug, but I'm sure it was
there (and for most operations involving files and folders to or from
the desktop). St

Removed the symlink
rm /home/jelle/Desktop/ -R
mkdir ~/Desktop
touch ~/Desktop/text.txt
File shows directly on the desktop
rm ~/Desktop -R
File is not being removed from desktop
Manually refresh Desktop synchronizes the desktop
rm /home/jelle/Desktop/ -R
mkdir ~/test
ln -s ~/test ~/Desktop

yes - thanks for the reply. That is what I was trying to do, but as I
mentioned in my original post, I couldn't do this as I had a "permission
denied" error, and I didn't know where the problem was.
I eventually worked it out, in case anyone else has this problem, check
the ownership on ~/.loca

I run Xubuntu 6.10 problem was there to on Xubuntu 6.06
I have a directory located at /mnt/hda3/desktop
I have done a:

Dear All
I am beginning with XFCE on Fedora Core 6, and everything seems to
work fine, except Thunar that takes often a long time to pop up. Do
you know how to improve the very slow Thunar? My computer is a fast
one (with a Dual Core with 1GB of RAM).
