The problem is that browsers have increased their security settings, so the upgrade code cannot download the new tiddlywiki. The way around this is to download the latest version of TW and then import you old tiddlywiki into it. Once you have the latest TW, you should be able to do future upgrades.

John, I see your points about tiddler placement on-first-open and on-reopen. But I'd like to comment on the close button. If you place the close-tiddler control at the end of tiddlers, then it becomes an unpredictably placed element of the UI. Sometimes you may even have to scroll to discover it.
