I'm not using any plugins, just the standard wiki with the dark

I just tested using FF3.0.4 and IE7 (on WinXPSP3) and the above syntax
works just fine there. This suggests

Since IE8 is still in beta, I'm not sure we should put too much effort
into it at this point.
Having said that, I'll see whether we can investigate this a little
further after the holidays.
