I have two 5370A counters, and both were afflicted by the "cheap socket"
syndrom.
After a year or so of intermittent operation (in spite of frequent removing
and reseating of the parts and application of Deoxit Gold), I took the two
boards with most of the sockets (processor board and memory
There's a lot about 5370s in the archive. Common problems seem to be
intermittent sockets for the ROM chips, and (in my own experience) dirty
polarity/impedance/attenuator switches. The manual has a good self-check
procedure for the internal circuitry, but you need to be careful to ensure

I contacted TAPR and they said that they got their Thunderbolts and PS in
pairs from Tom and could not supply only a PS. I don't know who Tom is !

Just got one on Ebay, it was reported with display problems and possibly not
working. The display problem was real but it appears to work fine. Thanks
