Chris, I don't know about the RasberryPi, but the BeagleBone ( http://beagleboard.org/bone makes an excellent web server, mine (www.vk7krj.com ) has been running for about 6 months now with no problems. Draws 2 watts and is completely silent. Yes, the sd card has a finite life, but they are ch

Hi The target price for the version without Ethernet is $25. The only one you can get is the higher priced one with Ethernet. There also are some Chinese alternatives in the same general price range... Bob -Original Message- From: time-nuts-boun...@febo.com [mailto:time-nuts-boun...@feb

That is pretty interesting. They say they are as low as $25. What I see is $40. But they are small and capable so I would guess they could be a good ntp server. Plus low power and a small blob that can live on the basement wall. Regards Paul On Tue, Oct 30, 2012 at 1:08 PM, Pete Lancashire wrote:

Try to place all files that regularly change, in this case the drift file on storage other then the SD card. Almost all of these storage devices SD, USB Memory etc have a limited number of write cycles. Even a 1 MB ram disk is worth the effort. -pete On Tue, Oct 30, 2012 at 9:41 AM, Bob Camp wro

Hi One week link on the Pi (at the moment) is file system access. Storage is on an SD card and the drivers aren't as optimized as you might like. Not so big a deal for NTP, might be a bigger deal for a web or file server. I have not tried USB disks, so no idea how they do. Bob -Original Mes

I've always wondered about the utility of a light duty server. They are useless unless you have at least one client computer to use it and then it you do have a computer why not simply run the server on that? All NTP installations are both clients and servers. One reason I asked abut load average
