As a long-time lurker, I hesitate to presume that something might
interest this erudite and well informed group. But I came across a
couple of items I have not heard mentioned by anyone. They are simple
USB dongles set up as spectrum analyzers. I bought one of each with
external antennas
I'm glad to know that what I have been seeing is reasonable. I have
had difficulty syncing to WWVB with embedded receivers before, so
perhaps I will get a better signal from the top floor of my house. Here
on ground level I never see it lock.

I was confused by their description too. It does include the antenna.
I bought two to play with. It seems pretty complete, but I haven't
written any code to read it yet.

Maybe we should consider coming up with a standard voltage reference as
a TAPR project. We have a lot of good brainpower out here and it seems
a lot of experience available.

I would be very interested in a project like that.

Actually, the best hardware for the job is the Soekris NET4501
which can timestamp a signal to a quarter microsecond.
That's why we use it for NTP servers in the first place.
All the software you need is in the FreeBSD kernel, and there
is a handy userland program
How much would be reasonable to pay for one of these on EBay? I see
someone asking $259 for one. I'm sure that TAPR's price was much
better, but I wasn't paying attention.
