Probably the highest performance timing receiver out there right now is based
upon the Venus / Skytraq modules. The cheapest one of those is Nick Sayer's
module (on Tindie) It is (mostly) pin compatible with the Adafruit Ultimate
GPS. Navspark also sells one.

I'm happy to give you my BBB and custom made gps cape for it if you want to
continue the work. I stopped all work right about the time I got married
(2 years ago) and likely will never circle back around to play with it
again.
