Try as I might, I cannot hear a single thing from my 5065A, which has
run 24/7 for five years without issue.
Jared earlier said he has inverter noise from his 5065A and now Magnus
reports it also. How common is this?
I will be interested in a replacement A15 regulator board as Ulf

Let me second Paul's question.
I too am interested in the purchase of 2 of these boards and am happy
to contribute funds in the advancement of this project.

Hi Jared,
One of my 5065's have exactly this fault.
One approach is to rebuild with a new power inverter. Another is to
rebuild the amplifier board so it does not need -20 V and can operate
only on +20 V.
There should be DC-DC inverters, but I failed to grab a suitable
pre-built board for i
Ulf I would have replied off list. Are you intending to sell blank PCBs?
I was recently thinking about the same thing as I watched the cfld move a
bit.
I know there is also a earlier thread on this subject 3-5 years ago.

Jared,
I think an -20 V rail short to ground has first blowup A15Q10.
Then the -20V converter was light loaded and the output DC voltage goes up and
blows also the zeners.
The most easy way to protect and repair: replace A15Q10 with a LM337 with 2
resistors to adjust the output to -20V.

Since the A15 regulator board is mentioned...
I recently decided to try to improve the Voltage Regulator board A15in order to
use a better voltage reference than CR5 (9V) and alsosee if I could reduce the
drift and noise of the Magnetic Field winding.
After some experimenting, I am reasonable sa
Hi
Since you can “dial in” the correct voltage, I’d go with the parts you
can find. I’d be suspicious that all those parts died and the transformer
is still healthy …..

Aha! That is very interesting background information! It nicely puts your
comment in perspective to "bridge the fuse with a wire and be done with it".
Big grin here when reading the "beer was involved" comment. I have used a
similar approach on my business visits to HP CXO (well after T&M was s
Hi Michael,
Thanks for that plot. I think it sumarizes fairly well what typical
devices of today achieves.
There is rubidiums and quarts that go into the 1E-14s, but most do not.
The old plot uses a "span" for the different technologies and that helps
to avoid the "but this device/product" t
Jared,
A 5065 is a piece of technological historywell worth preserving and keeping.
Just put it away for some time and wait.Inspiration will come back.
There are plenty of knowledge on the internet.
Once you get the hang of troubleshooting ityou will feel rewarded.

Well, it seems more digging is needed... I have 84uA Photo I coming from the

Manual says look at Q1, Q2 and IC1 circuits. Anyone have any pointers or
suggestions on what to check?
Jared.

Don't give up now, Jared! You must be so close to getting that puppy running
correctly.
