Glen,
perhaps there is some updated equivalent to the old film technique of
running film past a slit, with the shutter open? One of the very early
high speed recording methods. Capable of recording one analogue value at
very high speed, at least in its time.

I checked today the GPS12XL I have, and that came up with a date in
August 99, before dying a few minutes later. Firmware 4.57.
The only thought I had was that the GPS 12 (still working, still showing
"19" as the year) was bought new around 2002 with a differential
receiver. Perhaps there was
I switched my GPS12 on, and it comes up with 07 Apr 19, time correct, too.
Firmware is 4.58, 1996-2000.

I would love something that gave a list of options set from the location in the
NMEA string.
Such as this time zone or different, with nearby zones first; DST on/off. Could
get to be a significant effort very quickly, but maybe there are xml files out
there that would make it easy?

Hi all,
discussion of how to keep accurate time without access to GPS seems very
on topic to me.
These people involved in major catastrophe ('end of the world' as you
put it) scenarios have a wealth of experience in other ways of keeping
accurate time.
