Hi Bob,
as by the datasheet:
- input power during warmup: 11W
- 3.5W operating at 25°C
- warmup time 2.5 hours typ.
The actual heater consists of resistor wire wound along the entire
length of the cylindrical aluminum case containing the oscillator.
The power transistor, which is used to
Hi,
given it is a 10MHz OCXO, your drift is just 4E-11/hour or 9.6E-10/day,
which isn't terribly bad, is it?
A good modern OCXO is specified at +/- 0.2ppb/day (2E-10) after 30 days
of continuous operation. Some ultra high performance stuff does
<1E-10/day, and may improve down into the
If it works, don't try to fix it.
In the datasheet

there is no cooling requirement specified.
I would assume that it is usually mounted on a PCB which adds some
cooling though not terribly much.
After 1 hour the case
Hi Perry,
this kind of frequency difference multiplyer is great for frequency
adjustments, but has limited ADEV measurement performence.
If you're shooting for ADEV, symmetry of both channels, reference and
DUT is inalienable. I have a Tracor 527 and Adret 4110. Both are way too
noisy and
Corby,
I keep my No. 1 running all the time. Should be about 6 years since I
installed the optical filter.

Hi,
How many of you leave your 5065A on all the time?
Approximately how many years have you had it running without major
Paul,
the Adret 4110 is great for frequency difference measurements and
adjustments.
For serious ADEV measurements, it's just too noisy on low tau's and has
too much temperature drift / long term phase instability on high tau's.
See the attched noise floor test.
I have a 4110 with a paper op

A typical system noise floor in the mid to high E-13's isn't really
exciting.
It's just not good enough for measuring good crystal oscillators at
tau=1s, not even to speak of BVA's. Ok for GPS frequency standards.
A well built W. Riley Mini DMTD performs better by an order of magnitude.
Hi Ulf,
I will be happy to help you with the repair.
I do have a B5400, which is a predecessor of the BVA series.
I had it completely dismanteled some years ago. It has a significantly
different design though.
Nevertheless, I'm into OCXO stuff, and I might be able to help, probably
only by having
