[Tinyos-help] Standard for sensor boards developement

Hi all, I have a rather quick question. If one wants to develop a sensor board hardware that can be used as/in WSN, is there a standard to follow? What I mean is, I know that a sensor board should have uC, transceiver, etc. But I guess one does not randomly selects these critical compinents. So
