The Psychology Department at Texas State University-San Marcos invites applications for three tenure-track positions beginning September 1, 2005. A Ph.D. in Psychology is required and a specialization or research emphasis that can support the Health Psychology Masters program will be viewed favorably. Rank is open but Assistant/Associate Professor is preferred. Applicants should provide evidence of scholarly productivity commensurate with experience and evidence of quality teaching at the college level. Candidates for all three positions are expected to maintain an active research program that engages undergraduate and graduate students, secure external funding, and teach undergraduate and graduate psychology courses. The normal teaching load consists of three courses (9 hours) per semester.


(1) Biopsychology/Behavioral Neuroscience. Applicants should have expertise in
a broadly defined area of biological psychology (physiological psychology, psychopharmacology, neuropsychology, behavioral neuroscience). Successful candidate must be able to teach undergraduate and graduate laboratory courses in physiological psychology, brain & behavior, sensation & perception, and will have an opportunity to develop advanced course(s) in his/her area of specialization. The candidate will be expected to establish a laboratory facility that is commensurate with the university resources that currently can support human but not animal research, and maintain an active research program. Specific area of research interest is open but preference will be given to candidates with links to health psychology.


(2) Health Psychology. Successful candidate for this position is expected to contribute to the growth of the Health Psychology Masters program. Responsibilities include: teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses in health psychology and other areas of expertise, supervising graduate research and theses and establishing a health related research program. The focus of research is open but special consideration will be given to candidates with interests in applied aspects of health psychology (e.g., health promotion and program evaluation) and strong background in quantitative methods and psychometrics.

(3) Cognitive or Cognitive-Developmental Psychology. Successful candidate should be able to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in cognition. Special consideration will be given to the candidate who can also teach an undergraduate course in developmental psychology. Specific area of research interest is open, however, preference will be given to applicants with a strong background in quantitative methods.
