I don't see any reason that you need to include this information
in the preface for several reasons. I don't see students
reading prefaces commonly so I don't think including the

I am aware that the biology departments of both my current
university and my previous institution did exactly this...they sold
local, home-grown lab manuals to their students as required texts,
and then used all revenues from sale of the manual as needed to
purchase instructional material
The issues associated royalties have been discussed some here in the past, but I
