Hi

For my Ed Psych class I am talking about interests of teachers on
standardized interest surveys (e.g., Jackson Vocational Interest
Scale). I am curious whether anyone knows anything about the
relationship between teacher interest in a topic and quality of
instruction. Elementary and Secondary teachers, who may end up
teaching Math, Science, and the like, tend not to have high
levels of interests in these topics (at least as judged by the
similarity of their attitudes to those of people working in
professions related to these topics and by their ratings of
activities related to these topics). I am curious whether this
would translate into differences in amount and/or quality of
instruction in those areas. Of course, psychology instructors
might find themselves in the same situation, having to teach
topics that don't interest them that much. Do we do a poorer job
on those topics?

Best wishes
Jim
