Following is an abstract of a recent review article available at the site. EFFECTS OF MASS CONSCIOUSNESS: CHANGES IN RANDOM DATA DURING GLOBAL EVENTS Roger Nelson, PhD, and Peter Bancel, PhD2 A long-term, continuingexperiment is designed to assess the possibility thatcorrelations may occur in synchronized random data streams generatedduring major world events. The project is motivated by numerousexperiments that suggest that the behavior of random systems can bealtered by directed mental intention, and related experimentsshowing subtle changes associated with group coherence.Since 1998, the Global Consciousness Project (GCP) hasmaintained a global network of random number generators (RNGs),recording parallel sequences of random data at 65 sites aroundthe world. A rigorous experiment tests the hypothesis that datafrom the RNG network will deviate from expectation during timesof “global events,” defined as transitory episodes of widespreadmental and emotional reaction to major world events. An ongoingreplication experiment measures correlations across the networkduring the designated events, and the result from over 345formal hypothesis tests departs substantially from expectation. Acomposite statistic for the replication series rejects the nullhypothesis by more than six standard deviations. Secondary analysesreveal evidence of a second, independent correlation, as well astemporal and spatial structure in the data associated withthe events. Controls exclude conventional physical explanations orexperimental error as the source of the measureddeviations. The experimental design constrains interpretation of theresults: they suggest that some aspect of human consciousness isinvolved as a source of the effects.
