Sorry, yes, you're absolutely right. It has nothing to do with cursor blinking, it does it in every second (I got confused, because the blinking happens in every second too). And yes, the status-interval option is responsible for this. I had it set to 1 second. When I increased it, the selection stayed for the interval.
