There is a "plugin" for tmux called tmux-powerline ( https://github.com/erikw/tmux-powerline). It would be much easier to write a small bash-script that integrates with tmux-powerline and notifies you of a chat message in the tmux status line than trying to hack tmux to do the same. On Tue, Sep 1
