http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/4323062.html if you have jdk 1.3.1 and you call java with the -Xrs option, you will be able to log out of windows without tomcat shutting down. just a tip - my application wasn't working with jdk 1.2.2 so i couldn't downgrade to get around this bug.
