Howdy.
I'm new to Tomcat, and I'm having a bit of trouble finishing a setup
for testing. I've set up the default installation - that is,
unzipped it and run the batch file - and it works very well. However,
the ride gets a bit bumpy when
check your logs under $CATALINA_HOME/logs and what errors you get there? I
think the requirement for Tomcat4 is java1.3 also.

java 1.2 is fine with tomcat 4. That's what I got to work, anyway.
