Daemon 1.0 is what ships with Tomcat. You need 1.1-dev (aka CVS HEAD).

I was using the jsvc bundled with Tomcat, I've also tried with the latest

I'm running Tomcat 5.5.4 and jdk1.5.0 on Fedora Core 3 and when I stop
Tomcat using the supplied Tomcat5.sh script I always get -
jsvc.exec error: Service exit with a return value of 143
Can someone please explain this error, is it something I should be
concerned about?
Thanks

Hi,
I have a problem when I try to shutdown tomcat. I have tried with version
4.1.24 and 4.1.27, but the problem happens with both versions.
When I start the server (with startup.sh), and browse http://localhost:8080/index.jsp,
and then shutdown it (with shutdown.sh), it works fine. The problem
You are attempting the shutdown too soon (before Tomcat has finished coming
up). Wait 30sec or so and try again.

This shutdown error happens when I run the catalina script with 'stop'.
Maybe reading my .xml (first attempt) would help you finding what's
going on?

Hi and thank you for answering.
I got the impression that I was the only one that could read my mails ;-)
Tomcat is up and running as well as my webapp, although I do have
unexpected jsp error message since I've upgraded from T3.2 to T4.1.2.

I am using the 4.1 version of Tomcat contained in the JWSDP (Java Web
Services Developers Pack EA2) from Sun along with the versions of
startup.sh and shutdown.sh provided. My platform is Linux RedHat 7.1.
Tomcat starts and functions correctly; however, when I use the shutdown
script to stop it,

Mike,
Is it possible that Tomcat is not running when you execute shutdown.sh

Howdy,
I actually disagree with the interpretation of the error: if you try to

But I don't have an answer to the original question ;) Is

Hello,
I've recently installed Tomcat-4.0.1 and am running it on RH 7.2 with apache
1.3.22. Occasionally, when I shut down tomcat using
bin/catalina.sh stop,
I get the following exception and stack trace dump:
Catalina.stop: java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused
