With my past experience with HP jvms- I would be surpised if 1.4.1.00
was stable on their platform.
Try a 1.3 jvm with all the kernel patches and see if you can replicate
the problem.
Also add -XdoCloseWithReadPending to your CATALINA_OPTS.
