Tom,
The modification you mention for using a BF981 with the KD9SV preamp is as
follows :
Install a 22 ohm resistor between the 100 ohm resistor and the source of
the dual gate mosfet. The 100 ohm resistor is currently connected to the
source of the dual gate mosfet and ground, so you ne
If you want a 3SK88 then a source in UK is Mode Components who are selling
them for £1.60, plus carriage. modecompone...@yahoo.com

Subject: Topband: KD9SV Preamp with BF-981
> Hello Topb
There is at least some 160 mx activity in KG4 now. I worked Edwin, KG4KL,
on March 4 at 0307Z on 1.850 SSB. Thought he might be active in the contest
this weekend, but haven't heard him so far. Also worked KG4SS on the same
day on 15 mx at 2226Z.

Along with my direct QSL for a recent 160m QSO, Franco sent a note
explaining that he suffers extreem QRM on Topband from the local power
company.
His recent special Topband operation was only made possible by gaining
special permission to run a long wire antenna (presumed a Bev.?) and against
I know many don't like SSB on TB but KG4KL was on 1850 the other night
March 1 at 0300 for a couple hours as Greg said he did have trouble with
some folks (noise) but he was there for at least 2 hours FYI 73Sam

Hello Topbanders,
today I forgot to hook the keying line to my KD9SV preamp. I destroyed the
OMRON G6A relay, witch bypasses the preamp. It is available in DL.
The problem is the 3SK88 transistor. I heard KD9SV is now using BF-981 with a
small modification (cut one trace and add one resistor)
I last operated from Guantanamo Bay in the summer of 2009.
Unfortunately, the club station is located in a very noisy environment,
in a depression. If you have Google Earth, the station is located in
the southwest corner of the building at this position: 19' 54.646N, 75'
