Instructions for creating a drawing of the basic configuration: 160 only,

the length of the top of the L.

The counterpoise needs to be bare wire with separators at 4-6 inches for
the separation. We have tried making the counterpoise with 450 ohm window
line, which came up lossy. Operations improved with the discard of FCP
using heavy dielectric. Using zip cord would definitely be worse. FORGET

As others have noted recently, conditions seem to have been finally
improving this winter Topband season. I have had a lot of success into
Europe over the last month, but this morning was extra special and
hopefully a sign of good things to come.

I have been following your posts, and have some questions, brought on by a
view at the W0UCE diagrams, at:

The top figure seems to match what I understood from your post, but the
figure that includes the Inv "L" confuses
Guy,
I'm looking at your antenna at W0UCe's website:

Does the sections of the folded counterpoise have to be separated from each
other or can they be adjactent to each other. I'm thinking of constructing one
using zipcord for the FCP.

The flavour of the comments seems to be distilled as - the rules make it so we

But some contacts are worth a lot more than others, and some of us have
a lot more mults available to us than others, for equivalent effort.
Note: the following is not a theoretical or untested antenna. There
are working antennas in the field using the folded counterpoise
described below, scoring well in contests**, in use up to a year and
more. Contest scores of the sort attained are not made using antennas

Hi Jeff,
That's the problem with the ARRL 160m from a European point of
view. Jeff you get 5 points for working me , I get two points for working
you, in the same Contest. A no brainer, which is why now although I hold
the EU record I do not bother with this one any more, with the exce

Hi George and all,
good to know that it's worth to switch to western RX-Antennas quite
early! I think the problem for US-Stations copying EU before their SS is
that most Europeans listen to the east at that time. Do you see any
difference at signal-angle on receiving before sunset? I worked UK9A
Hi Gang
I have been reading comments about this past weekend's ARRL 160M test and I
wish to address some comments that I have seen regarding EAST COAST
participants.
Some of what I have read seems to suggest that we out here are not
interested in beaming to and or working WEST COAST stations.
West coast stand outs here on Friday night through the dismal codx
were K7OX and VE6BBP.

Gentlemen,
Running 50w I only worked Jeff VY2ZM who was real strong as usual but after
a few calls to other loud stations I switched off.
Would say it is almost impossible to get thru with low power. Never turned
on my Henry 4K.
Looking forward to this promising winter. Plase dont be afried of s

compatibility program in 7to make it work(it was for 98/95/2000)..anyway, It
wont play, and I Went to lewallens eznec website,to D/l an up grade to to see
if that will make it play,
I was on the site in the last few weeks and

Hi Andre
And I can attest. I heard you CQing 90 min before our SS on top band.
Superb conditions.
Altho no copy on Pai and he left the band before it reached our SS.
Another good one was just prior to the first nite of CQWW CW. I was hearing
plenty of EU 2 hours before my SS.

It turns out that W6XR reversed the "F" and "N" on WA8GBB's grid
square and made it NF31 - which would be somewhere in the South Indian
Ocean. Since nobody else worked WA8GBB, this error was not detected
by the software and I didn't take the time to find this myself.
