Topband: The Stew Perry Warmup

The station is setup on 160 meters and waiting for the Stew at 11 AM Eastern Daylight Time. My NVIS antenna is not going to be a world beater but I'll work a few..assuming we don't have an Emergency Room trip yet again today. Late last night a couple of the RBN machines heard me on 160 but

Topband: Raised radial question from NH

Hi, Jim In my experience, the answer is no to both questions - although a full size inverted L , while being a very effective transmit antenna can be a really noisy receive antenna. Can you go out in the woods and hang a flag, pennant or KAZ terminated loop for a receive antenna? Helped me a LOT

Joe, I have an LK-500ZC and used it for years in all the big 160 tests with no issues. The original transformer blew up soon after I got it (used), and was replaced with a Peter Dahl transformer. I also had a new plate choke and new QSK board installed at that time. I have hundreds of

Thank you Charlie, In that case I may be able to get another raised radial up before the action begins later this afternoon. A receiving antenna is a definite possibility also especially if one could be rigged to go up and down easily. Good idea. Thanks again Charlie. Jim / W1FMR On

Good luck, Jim!! BTW I've worked some good stuff all round the world on 160 with a 70 foot tall Inv L with two elevated radials that ran along my lot lines. For receiving, the 'KAZ terminated loop is delta shape and it could be supported by one line at the apex, and the ends could be tied off

Re: Topband: Raised radial question from NH

2013-10-19 Thread Bruce
Charlie, The so called KAZ is a receiving Delta loop. I ran into the KAZ name when Broadcast Band SWL's were purchasing transformers from me. This was well after Earl, K6SE (sk) had further developed the small Delta loop for optimum on 1.830 MHZ. It has always been called a Delta loop

Hi, Bruce Well, the KAZ antenna is named for Neil Kazaross one of the original designers that optimized the terminated delta loop for MW broadcast reception. The 10' X 40' K KAZ that I threw together some years ago, worked wonders for me on 160 on my modest city lot with no room for beverages.

Ive had a ZC since 1986 and its been used pretty hard in contests and DXing but I keep it around 1200W. The original Eimacs are still putting out full power. The only problem spot is on the front wafer where the 160M padder tap is right next to the ceramic insulator for the switch hardware.
