Guys - there is already a system with a "flood of signals " authorized for ADSL
and VDSL . They go thru 160 , 80 , 40 every 4 khz (specs say every 4.375 khz)
but here in NE Phoenix they are precisely 4.000 khz spacing . I spent 75 days
with Centurylink with carriers every 4 khz as loud as -75 d

Roger,
I don't like this anymore than you do. *But Brian said he read it, *and I
believe what he stated below. And others here have said similar things
about this.
Maybe we're occupying too much bandwidth here on the Topband reflector! ;-)

Isn't this a done deal? It's been authorized by the FCC! What can we do,
except react to any QRM that might occur?

Well they are actually licensed to transmit between 1710 and 1900 kHz . . .
And what is worrying is the licence also states: "the occupied bandwidth of
the emission shall not
extend beyond the band limits set forth above" . . . which sounds like it
could be a very wideband transmission indeed !
This was the culmination of Tree's subtle warning to all of us to 'stop

Respectfully, Tree, maybe you should go into Bill Tippett mod mode. He

I thought they were limited to 1.8000 MHz on the 160m band. No?
Whatever the case --after reading the related recent posts here-- all the
fuss, fuming and fulminating over a *temporary* carrier --on whatever
frequency they transmit-- seems to be much ado about nothing.

Kill switch will be good main tx out of our band will be good. I am all for
experimental projects. That’s what we do too However on a non interference
basis.
Make this a great day

Without question it leaves the gate open for a flood of signals that will do
away with ALL weak signal work on that band. Definition of weak signal in this
case anything less than an effective ERP less than their tx power out plus
antenna gain. And as long as we stay within our license limits
I think I read that they also provided a phone number to
someone with a 'kill switch' in case QRM does occur.

I read their experiment. They will transmit only a CW (unmodulated)
signal for the minimum time needed to complete a field strength
reading. The only frequency where they will run 1000W "radiated" is
1710kHz. On other freqs they plan to run 100W "radiated" & try to avoid
interfering with us.
I don't care that this will never be a practical way of transferring power .
. .
But aren't any of you guys worried about the fact that their licence allows
them to transmit ANWHERE within Top Band?
This could be some horrible wideband signal that generates a lot of QRM !

I asked the question, as I was wondering why no new posts were appearing for
almost a week . . .
In particular, I was disappointed that I was unable to post on Wednesday to
remind people about our new 160m DX Activity night !

The answer is simple - MODERATION.
As I have said before - this list is typically wide open and messages are

Most of the time this works.

Top Band has been quite dismal on my sunrise lately (1950z) to the point of
me wondering why I should even bother getting out of bed early.
I have heard Z60A and the pileup, but there is no point in even trying to
call them, as they are only working Europe.
