You are so right Dave. Even from the west coast working JA's it can require a
lot of work and perseverance especially with the weak ones. There are times
working 3 or even 4 a minute can occur but I have not seen those conditions for

I think the discussion about NA activity on CW has run its course.

You are missing the point. This was tongue in cheek comment. I could have
picked any mode with any bogus argument.
There are 10s and 100s of KHZ of spectrum wasting away unused and people have
nothing better to do but complain about FT8 and the use of 3KHz of spectrum per
band for ALL users.
Since they're in the business of selling certificates I would think that they
would offer a separate one.

Coming back into ham radio after 40 odd years QRT I feel like I have woken into
a new world. I finally found out what the strange warbling noise around 1840 is
but have no desire to investigate it further. Absolutely the most annoying
thing I have found is the universal practice of everybody
*In addition to CW contesting*, this might be fun to try sometime for us

Of course there is a lot to learn to be a successful SSB Dxer. I won't
elaborate but will note that there is a separate DXCC for Phone.
I would have no problem at all with FT-8 if it (and similar automatic modes) had
their own DXCC and didn't dilute (or is it pollute) my RTTY DXCC.

Soon after the "FT8 Roundup" held on December 1-2, 2018, we started serious
work on a faster, more contest-friendly digital mode that can compete with
RTTY-contesting QSO rates while preserving many of the benefits of FT8.
Hi Rick,
I don't have a memory keyer. I do intend to set up a computer or
something to make the calls (CQ) while I do other things near the
radios. When somebody replies it will be back to sending by hand for me.
I do prefer CW. I am not even sure where a working mic is hidden - I

Quite the opposite. . .while I'm a CW guy, there can be considerable skill
required for good SSB operation. If you've ever had to run a big SSB pileup
or tried pull out a weak DX signal with a foreign accent, you know what I'm
talking about! 73. . . Dave, W0FLS

Someone on 75m this morning said that there was a new FT-4 mode, meant for
contesting. I know nothing about it.

Hi Emir,
Thanks for info!
I’m up here in Maine for a week of work with my son Bobby.
On cold Maine afternoon with 30f temp and mix precipitation I walked the land.
I really wanted to fly the drone to get a full perspective but that will have
to wait for another day. However, I was
So how many of us still send the whole QSO with a key?Buttons on my Pro III do
most of the work (like mouse clicks with FT-8), I only send the other station's

Why stop there? Also remove SSB as it is way too easy. Nothing to learn. No
skill required.

Hi All
That's right, the main thing is to enjoy the process.
The popularity of FT8 (and other versions of FT .. that are possible in
the future) lies in the fact that it provides an easier way to DXCC.
It's simple - remove the FT from DXCC, and there will be no activity ...
