I have found either way works. A small 1/2 in hole on bottom of box with brass vent screen glued in place is effective. Leaving the boxes breath is important. If you  have leakage the moisture will flow in with temperature change and condensate. I use desiccant in my control boxes and replace

I have long given up trying to waterproof boxes from Rain. I keep them rain proof and make sure there are multiple places for water to run out. I also do a lot with Alpine Ski racing and we have timing boxes, no different than a Beverage box, scattered all over ski hills. Same practice. Just ma
