Wow, even though I haven't been very active on 160, I'm pretty sure Herb
was one of my very first DX contacts in 1964 on whatever band, probably 15.
Seems like he was still posting on the reflectors just a few days ago.
Very Sad,

Just seen this . . . and so sad to hear the news.
As others have said, Herb was one of the real stalwarts of Top Band DX . .
and consistently one of the big signals here in Europe.
I think I first worked him back in 1970, a few months after I was licensed.
I just looked back in my (paper) Log Bo
Very sorry to hear this news. I can't begin to count the number of
contacts I have had with him over the years.

Also sorry to learn of the passing of Dick, K2RIW. I was an early builder
of his famous 432 strip line amp (parallel 4CX250Bs) that appeared in April,
1972 QST. My equipment and mechanical skills were limited. While my amp
worked it didn't quite perform as well as it could have. Dick kindly
Herb had a full life, but unfortunately all must end. I used to work him back
in the early 60s from Kansas to Minnesota: W0PSF to W0VXO. I joined the Army
Reserve and had a summer two weeks at Camp Ripley, MN. so went to visit him.
He met me at the door and my Captain and I were treated with
Shocking and sad news indeed.
Fond memories: First ever KV4/DL Q on 160 (Jan '69), Qs from 6W8 and CE0
apart from many with W0VXO.
My condolences to his family and friends
RIP Herb!

It is saddening to hear that Herb has passed. He was my first real DX
contact back in 1975 on 160 and filled the log so many more times over
the years. Truly a great 160m contester and Dx'er of the likes of Stew,
W1BB and Wally, W8LRL. I have long memories of working him with 100W in
old days t
Sad news indeed. Herb was always there during a contest and we will miss him.

Always sad to learn that a giant in any field has left the battle. Herb was a
great positive influence and no doubt a role model for many in our hobby.

Such sad news. Herb was always there in contests. Often struggling with
static at his end he always stayed with it to try to pull stations through.
I remember working him from the T32C DXpedition in 2011. Having worked
us on 160m CW and Phone he said he’d got all the slots. I cheekily
