Hi Jim
Thanks for the explanation. Hardly encouraging for the rest of us.

Also the timing of this "contest" (thanks to the scoring system it's really
more of an activity weekend in this neck of the woods) doesn't do us any
favours down here or in the southern hemisphere in general.
As Tree noted, it is the middle of summer here and
Northern hemisphere transatlantic propagation is far superior
in January compared to the equinoxes

Just a few observations from ZL...
Firstly there are very few ZLs on topband in any form. In terms of CW ops
you could probably count them on one hand. In 160m contests if there is
more than 1 or 2 on then that is a lot and you shouldn't be surprised if
there isn't any - which is normally the
Hi Tomas,
Sorry I didn’t hear you calling. ZL3IO made it in the log after some good
operating and persistence on his part. I got the IO first, but maybe 8 ? More
calls on his part until the ZL was heard, and I filled in the 3 on my own.
VK2GR was really loud, but he hear me and disappeared

Hi Tree,
Winter operation of my remote is very iffy for battery status and is
often not accessible due to weather. I had a opportunity to operate from
Texas at a K7CA air B It was a real experience for this old guy.

Good topic about VK.

"Didn't hear any VKs or ZLs during the contest; were any of you on??"
Well, I worked from a small city lot in Sydney, running QRP.
Inverted L for TX with a vertical section being approx. 70 ft, terminated
vertical Flag 5m x 8m and a passive Moebius loop for RX. TX antenna radials

G'day Topbanders,
Sad to say condx were abysmal, for the CQWW 160m CW contest, at least as
far as VK6 to Asia and Stateside is concerned.Tree summed it up very well.
I listened from 1/2 hour before my SS at 1119z and throughout Saturday
evening. There were plenty of extremely weak traces on
