Hi all,
I agree with Roger because - if you take a glance at the "logged in list" -
it looks like quite a few NA stations are active. You can choose to set "I
am away" to make the picture more clear.

Hi gentlemen,
Way back in time - 1982 - I had my first QSO with Mike which actually was the
first QSO on 160 between SM and VK.
Still recall his pounding signals. Since then we had a lot of QSO:s , always
with good signals. RIP Mike!

Yes - almost but:
You have to complete your QSO on yourself
You are not obliged to use any PC or any other supports. If you do, then it
would not be a valid 100% QSO between two OPS.

I fully agree.
The local QRM is getting worse each year with all those LED:s and other ,
mostly tiny things radiating several hundreds meters. Only two ways to go:1
Identify the QRM source and get rid of it, 2: Try to improve your RX

To me, a 160 QSO is between 2 OPS sitt
I do not agree with you Pedro. More is not always better. Use no more than you
need. JT65 allows more noise than does CW, thus one doesn’t need as much power.

Hi all,
There are some good, fixed EU caps that were used in coast to ship radio

One of the outstanding onses were manufactured by "Rosenthal", also famous
for the production of extremely high Q porcelain used in dishes.

Eu:s showed up. Then 9M2AX came on with a nice signal thru the QRN. That was
it. LU8 xx was trying to hear Ross but I believe they did not make it.
QRN all over EU makes the band sound dead.

Hi Tom et al
Just wanna add the following:
Except for a 1/4 lambda vertical at the beach a la skirt with a bandwidth
from 1.7 to 8 MHz the best antenna ever used on 80 was a semivertical 2x40 m
hanging from 90 down to 25 m. That antenna was only used for SSB 80, low
noise, transmitting very well
Interesting. I have tried verticals, slopers, inverted V's and other 80
meter antennas on or near my 160 meter tower with little success.
The impedance of any such antenna seems to be severely altered by the nearby
tower. I suspect it depends on the electrical length of the tower. Mine is
cl
Hi Herb and all,
That is true - if you are not going for a vertically polarized Rhombic where
"only" the center support structures need to be tall. However that calls for
a very good ground system, not only below the antenna but several
wavelengths away. A typical seaside antenna?

Paul,
If I were you I would ground both towers and put them 1/4 wavelength apart
on 160. Grounded towers are easily fed by using a curtain or at least a few
wires dropped from the top, distance to towers at least 1.5m. If you add
some top load wires on the towers you would come close to 1.83 MHz. I
As many have stated Mike was a great OP. We did have our first 160 QSO in
April 1982, the first ever between VK and SM btw. I was surprised over the
signal he was putting out. Since then many more QSOs were to follow but we
never managed to make a complete RTTY QSO on 160 even thou we tried.

Hi guys!
Most or maybe all of us have been talking about 160 as the low band and that
is correct in a sence IF they are just about to open up 500 kHz on a more
global basis. I do not dream of working ZL on 500 but just want to figure
out how big interest there is at this reflector to run some tests
FT DX5000MP.
A friend of mine has one of those. He wants to buy an Elecraft P3
Panadapter.
On the back of this rig there is a RCA IF output. We believe it is the 2nd
IF at 9 MHz.
A relevant Q is:
What is the bandwidth of this output, is that OK for a panadapter?
