Gary,
Look at qualitynylonrope.com. I bought a 500' spool of 3/16" polyester
(dacron) rope from them about 6 yrs ago using it for my dipoles and guys for my
60' 160M vertical and so far no issues. They sell rope up to 1/2" dia. and,
the best part is free shipping on orders over
fiberglass in the sun. We certainly
don't have that problem here especially in winter and I take down my loops in
the summer to mow the grass. I suppose you could paint the poles to protect
them somewhat from the UV.

similar dia PVC but it flopped around
too much and was not easy to handle. The fiberglass is stiffer. With a set of
dacron rope guys in the middle and the loop for top guys it has been very
stable up against snow, wind and ice storms here in Michigan.

Nope, KH6LC doesn't have good ears, they have GREAT ears. Worked them from MI
with 5 watts and it wasn't the first time.

JC's caution is important. Check to see if you have any MF broadcast stations
near you. I have the MFJ259 and a 5KW AM station at 1480 Kc about 1.5 miles
away which renders the 259 useless on 160M'

I find that figure 8 glass insulators I buy on e-bay work very well and give my
wire antennas a bit more of a professional look and of course will last a lot
longer than the wire. Plus I like the old school look too. Russ K5ZZR My

Hello Gary,
I have been using the K9AY loops for several years and am very happy with the
performance but always looking for more. Is there anything critical about the
placement of the radials, i.e. in the same directions as the loops or at 45 deg
in between the loops?
Thanks,
Russ, N3CO
Carl,
You can check out the original article in the Oct. 2012 issue of QST. I
believe there was a QEX article also around the same time.
