Jeff,
I haven't been on topband in a few years since my antenna went down in an ice
storm. I was always active QRP in the big Stew Perry contests back 8-20 years
ago but then I got old and couldn't stay awake all night and together with some
health problems for both my wife and me I haven't
If you are hanging ropes over tree branches which tend to be abrasive I would
highly recommend the "Wouff Hang" as designed by Roy Lewallen, W7EL. He had
an article in QST, October 2019 which describes the device made up a of several
pieces of electrical conduit and PVC pipe which you pull
Gary,
Look at qualitynylonrope.com. I bought a 500' spool of 3/16" polyester
(dacron) rope from them about 6 yrs ago using it for my dipoles and guys for my
60' 160M vertical and so far no issues. They sell rope up to 1/2" dia. and,
the best part is free shipping on orders over $25.

Was the 1" OD cut into 2 pieces 4' long? One sticking out the top and the
other inside the 1.25" OD at the top joint to stiffen it? Or 2' each to stiffen
both joints?

I use 3 pcs of DXE-FT1250-8 (8', 1.25" OD) and 1 pc DXE-FT1000-8 (8', 1"
OD). I cut the 1" OD into 2 pcs 2' long which nested inside the larger tubing
and used the rest to stick out the top. The total height is 25' for my K9AY
loops. I did try the cheaper route with similar dia PVC but it
Nope, KH6LC doesn't have good ears, they have GREAT ears. Worked them from MI
with 5 watts and it wasn't the first time.

JC's caution is important. Check to see if you have any MF broadcast stations
near you. I have the MFJ259 and a 5KW AM station at 1480 Kc about 1.5 miles
away which renders the 259 useless on 160M'

I'll be QRP also from MI, passing out 4X points. Although. I'm a year
older and don't think I can stay up as long as last year.

From another QRP perspective, conditions were pretty miserable from here in
Michigan, part of the mid-west sorta thang.. I didn't hear a single Euro,
KH6, or KL7. I only heard 2 CA guys but they couldn't pull me out and worked
only 2 in FL which seemed odd. In the past couple of years I was
Hello Gary,
I have been using the K9AY loops for several years and am very happy with the
performance but always looking for more. Is there anything critical about the
placement of the radials, i.e. in the same directions as the loops or at 45 deg
in between the loops?
Thanks,
Russ, N3CO
