So bad news...Fausto was always very friendly and it was great
to compete with him in DXing..Its difficult to understand it... such a
great loss.
RIP Fausto

Guys,
So sad news...
I met John many times in Friedriechshafen and I visited him in his
house, he was very nice person
always eager to help. His books since a first edition have been always
in my bookcase.

David & All,
I've been using broadside DHDL's since 9 years. The configuration was
like is described in IV3PRK article :
"The distance between Deltas is about 95m. Resistors are 1250 ohm ,
tranformers 12:1 bifilar windings ,2 pieces of coax 75 ohm each one 50m
connected together to
Hi Frank..I understand in the case of BOG we should use both
transformers T1 and T3 with
4:1 impedance ratio... ?
I wonder if it is possible to use RG174 which unfortunately has quite
big attenuation even on 160m?

Ed I used to have half sloper for more than 10 years and it was working
quite well but a few
years ago I tried shunt feed the same tower ( 21m with big yagi on the
top) and the difference
was 1-2 S favouring shunt fed tower ( I was making tests with far DX
stations).
Are we talking half slopers or quarter wave slopers here. . shield
bonded to the tower at the top.

Ed I was talking exactly about such (quarter wave ) sloper and I have
had shield connected
to the tower at the top. SWR was 1:1 on both 160 and 80m but there were
Hi,
I am trying to work on 160m (also on 80m) from a city lot.
I have been reading about half slopers in the ARRL Wire antenna classics B
(chapter 7).
I have a 50 ft grounded tower available and can run an sloping wire 60 ft
(1/4 wl on 80m) then add an 80m trap and more wire to work 160m.
After many frustrating experiences with unwelcome interaction between
various 160 antennas and towers, I am thinking about going back to
basics by removing all the other 160 wires, and shunt feeding the 110
foot tower (which has a number of yagis on it). All else being equal
(such as ground
Hi All,
Coming night will be the last one on 160m. There is still a lot
of requests to activate PJ7PT on 80m and because of a lack
of space they have to chose between 80m and 160m antenna.
So they decided to give a chance on 80m for last few days
and 160m antenna will be take down tomorrow.
Hi All,
I was just talking with PJ7PT...they have problems with a space for more
antennas so they
have to remove 80m antenna to build 160m one...it will be done probably Sunday
or Monday...

Javi and Elmo have apparently arrived on Bioko Island, Equatorial Guinea
and QRV as 3C6A. They will be there until February 26th. From February
27th to March 11th they will be on Pagalu Island, more commonly known as
Annobon Island, operating as 3C0E. To my knowledge no one in the US has
worked
Jacek get stuck at the Airport in Lata...at least till Saturday, I don't know
what will be with his bookings from Honiara to Fiji and later to Los Angeles
and London - Warsaw... it seems DXpedition ( especially Topband ones)
are not always easy.

Hi All,
Jacek already disassembled station . He made 5200 QSOs , including 560 RTTY
contacts and about 550 on 160m.,
where he worked 183 stations from Europe ( 80 QSOs with Eu Russia and Ukraine)
and 100 different callsigns from US.
Unfortunately this is not the end of his adventure . Because
Hi All,
So far Jacek made about 5000 QSOs total and 530 on Topband , he worked on TB
102 stations from Europe... not counting European Russia and Ukraine.
Since 2 days at last we have better propagation from Europe.
Last two days Jacek had very strong storms on Pigeon Island and yesterday his

Hello All,
Jacek is slightly frustrated ( at least) because propagation on Topband was
quite good
only first day of his activity and later every day is worse and worse.
So far he made 440 QSOs on 160m and 4300 total.
He made 300 QSOs RTTY on 12m and he is aware his transmitting
frequency was
Hi All,
Till 13 October Jacek worked 350 QSOs on Topband ( almost 3000 total)
from which 50 QSOs are with Europe...not counting Ukraine and European Russia.
He wrote the Island is in a widest place only 30m wide now ! ( On Goggle map it
seems
to be wider but probably its an old picture) and there
Hi All,
Jacek log is updated but doesn't include yesterday QSOs...
He is very tired , making and tuning antennas alone is not easy additionally
temperatures are very high and humidity too.
He has problems with sleeping during a day because of the weather and
...lots of singing birds.. so
Jacek already landed in Lata...now he takes a boat to get
to Pigeon Island, so he is almost there.

Hi All,
Just new update from Jacek...He is already in Honiara on Salomons and was
already
in an office where he got the official license H40KJ. He was very tired after
long
trip with 70 kg of luggage so he was sleeping 14 hours non stop after landing .
On Saturday ( H40 time) he is flying to
Both Jacek SP5EAQ/T30AQ and SP5DRH/T30RH are OK and they are staying in a
hotel in Los Angeles...
this afternoon they fly to London.
Jacek send his logs to ARRL and they are already on LoTW.

I'v got information from Jacek there is VERY strong wind on Tarawa and he is
not sure
if 160m antenna will survive...and he has extremely high level of QRN.
His flight is scheduled on Thursday 0700 local time it means 1900 Z on
Wednesday so
I'm afraid Tuesday is the last day...they have to pack
Hello All,
Jacek is very active and practically he sleeps during a day to be almost all
night on 160m.
On Friday he had opening to Scandinavia and he worked a few stations.
Yesterday first time he had not a bad signal in Poland and I was hearing him
with
a decent signal for 20 minutes around 18
Jacek is active again on TB...the problem he had last night it was
damaged automatic antenna box...it is repaired but he is not
sure how it will work on 80m...anyway 160m is OK.
They have serious problems with internet connections but
first logs are on their Web : http://www.sp5drh.com/t30/
So
Unfortunatelly 160m vertical has been damaged and its after
sunset there so I'm afraid they will be not able to repair it untill
sunrise...probably not TB activity this afternoon .
I don't know how serious the failure is so try to listening anyway
maybe he will be able to do something.
Jacek SP5DRH (T30RH) with another Jacek SP5EAQ (T30AQ) are already
on Fiji and tomorrow should be on Tarawa. If everything goes well Jacek
will be on TB on Wednesday morning UTC but it depends on local conditions.
