EME qso when I thought I heard a WA3 calling
cq, only to realize on the next qsb rise that it was actually a JA3!
Likewise, I will always remember hearing my own ghostly voice coming back
from the moon. Sorry Jim, it's just not the same at all.

Eddy,
You do have
.
In order to leave all that, I took up TopBand DXing. It appears that history
is now repeating itself. It seems that newcomers want the easy way out, and
technology supplies it. Instant gratification, regardless how hollow, seems
to be the new goal.

From
, the current maximum in a radial occurs at 0.25 wavelength from it's
open end loss will be minimized when that current maximum is at the
feedpoint.

wavelength radials would probably end
up around 3X48' = 144'. (possibly slightly shorter due to the second order
effect).
Thanks to Rudy for his inspiration!
Sorry for the long message, but I think it's sound.

, not a DC ohmmeter. The reactive properties of
the wire are exactly what I measured. Also, the AC (rf) resistance went up
when the radial was placed in the ground. So, we're in agreement on all
points.

That might mean a lot at only 4 ohms radiation resistance

To find out your soil conditions, simply lay a temporary dipole on the
ground and use an analyzer to find it's resonance. Then trim to length. Now
you have your first two radials!
Good luck

vertical to use in a phased
array, but there were no suitable tree locations (I don't have any towers).
So the vertical is suspended between two trees which were not far enough
apart for resonance. EZNEC modelling provided the specifics. Besides, it
looks vintage...
