My guess is the multiple sustained low-absorption Solar Kp Index is
the main contributor to the EU openings we;'re seeing.
Since October 5 @ 06Z Kp reading of 5. The next high reading was on OCT 6
@ 21Z Kp reading 3.3, and another peak
on OCT 9 @ 18Z Kp reading 3.3.
Since then the Kp has been 2.2
Ron,
Indeed the band has been alive with EU for the last 3 evenings. The QRN was
elevated last night, but many signals on the QSB peaks were good copy.
Here in VE6 last night I logged OK1CF, DF2PY, SM5EDX, OK1DOT, LY7M, OZ4MM,
OK4WW, OH0Z, ON4GPE and PE5T.
The night before 11 EU were logged,
I came up to the shack around 0530 and starting around 0540 worked several EU
stations. DF2PY, G3OLB, ON7PQ, G3ROO, G3OQT, G3PQA, OT4A, OZ4MM. Earlier,
around 0102 worked OK1CF and heard, but didn't work, OK2BUZ. Lots of QRN and
QSB but several stations peaked up to 20dB above noise floor.
Hi Jim,
I never got anything on TB at or just after our SS. We are south of the
Equator and the ITCZ thunderstorms are still pretty strong this early in the
evening, putting a lot of QRN between us and NA (and EU). Things calm down
after 0900 Z and NA comes in mostly strong.

Hi Guys,
Have been looking for you B4 and around your sunset, but don't see you.
I usually have decent prop down that way.

E51D will QRT at 17:00 UTC Sept 8.
Tonight will be our last night on top band and it will be on FT8, 1848
Fox/Hound Mode.
George has made 1238 qsos in the past 10 days.
Last night we made an additional 194.
We hope to add another 200 tonight before going QRT.
See you then.

As Frank, W3LPL, kindly pointed out, I had the A index wrong. I use LOG4OM and
apparently the information it shows for A, K, etc are not up to date. The
information Frank provided makes last night make better sense. Thanks Frank!

Hi Dave,
I too was shooting blind when I called CKTB this morning. I was able to
leave Bonnie Heslop a Voice mail message. Bonnie is the News Director and
Announcer at that station and she is the person announcing in my
recording. I also sent them an e-mail with my contact info and link to my
Hello 160 ops,
I tried a telephone call to all the numbers for CKTB, but there is no
way to leave a messagee unless you know the name of someone there on the
directory list. There is no receptionist to answer the phone during the
day. I left my second e mail with contact information, but
Hi Dave and gang,
Here is a link to a youtube video from last nights reception of the 610 KHz
AM broadcast station in Canada that was causing RFI on 1.830 KHz.

I have now encountered this interference 3 nights this week, always around

That is good. I will see what happens when I call them. I suspect they
will do nothing as there is probably no engineer on staff. A VE3 ham
told me that this station is notorious in that area!
Thanks again

Hi Dave,
I’m copying phone station again on 1830.0 KHz and tonight the audio is good
copy (not distorted tonight). Station advertisements are Canadian and they
did say they are on 610. Time once again is 10:30 EDT 0230 UTC, and I once
again recorded it.

Hi Dave,
I’m hearing bursts of distorted audio right now on 1830.0 KHZ (it comes and
goes). Bursts peak about 10db over my noise floor.
I’m hearing it on my pennant pointing 40 degrees from near Indianapolis
(02:30UTC).

I turned on my 160 meter radio around 0100 UT on the 21st, and was
greeted by a huge level of noise on 1830. It wasn't too long before I
realized that I was listening to an AM BC station. Audio was distorted,
but I could copy the ads and they all referred to Buffalo and St.
Catherines, Canada.
Last night has brought a new one - 4S7AYG. Roman UR0MC was at the key. He had a
strong signal on 80 m also.
I expected to get another new one - TZ4AM since Jeff had a good signal in KN29
but, as always, numerous CQs and mostly EA QSOs
